Joining the Challenge

Former Fisher & Paykel Chief Executive John Bongard has been appointed Challenge Board Chair.
John brings a wealth of business and governance experience to the Challenge. He has served almost 36 years with Fisher & Paykel and was CEO and Managing Director prior to his retirement in 2009.
Mary Quin, Chief Executive of Challenge host Callaghan Innovation, says Mr Bongard is the right appointment.
“John’s experience in the leadership of one of New Zealand’s most successful manufacturing firms over so many years will be invaluable. In particular, his expertise in export-driven innovation will add value to a Board committed to achieving the goals of this ambitious Challenge.”
John is joined on the Board by Craig Ellison – a recognised Māori business leader, Gottfried Pausch – a technological entrepreneur and Linda Cooper, who has a proven record of success in financial and operational management in manufacturing, telecommunications and distribution businesses.
